The caves at Thanthirimale had been inhabited by the Megalithic man in Sri Lanka where Paleolithic cave paintings and some primitive drawings done by Veddah people were discovered. </li><li>Mary’s Church at Madhu located 50 km south-east of Mannar was started to build in 1876, home to the statue of Our Lady of Madhu.
