A lot of historical, archaeological, and architectural colonial remains are there in Galle. Of which the Galle Fort is main and the best. Approximately 3 hours’ drive if you drive directly</li><li>En-route visit Barberyn Island Lighthouse in Beruwala, one of the 4 international lighthouses in Sri Lanka</li><li>10 minutes boat ride from Beruwala coast. You will be able to climb up to the lighthouse. The surrounding view is mesmerizing you.</li><li>Then visit the port city of Galle. The Portuguese and the Dutch use Galle as the main seaport on the island. A lot of historical, archaeological, and architectural colonial remains are there in Galle. Of which the Galle Fort, UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Site is the main and the best. It is Asia's largest remaining fortress built by European occupiers. However, the present lighthouse was erected in 1939 due to the old one was destroyed by fire in 1934. </li><li>Then visit the Old Nupe Market, Star Fort at Matara, Matara Fort, and Dondra Lighthouse. </li><li>The Old Nupe Market (Old Dutch Market) building was used for the market in Nupe. The present building was built in the late eighteenth century but was first built probably by the Dutch.</li><li>Matara Fort was originally built by the Portuguese in 1560 and re-built by the Dutch in 1640.</li><li>The Star Fort, Matara was built by the Dutch in 1765.</li><li>Dondra Lighthouse is located at the southernmost point of the country.
