<ul>Adam's Peak has located in the Peak Wilderness Nature Reserve, 32 km southwest of Hatton. Adam’s Peak is the 4th highest mountain in Sri Lanka with a height of 2,243 m. It is named "Sripada" by the Sri Lankans. It has also called "Samanala Kanda" or Butterfly Mountain because of the long flights of butterflies that are fly towards the summit of the mountain during their annual migrations on the months of March and April.<br>
<br>Adam's Peak is a highly venerated pilgrimage site for Sri Lankans. The oversized footprint carved in stone at the summit of the peak is the most important and most venerated item in Adam's Peak. However, the religious significance of Adam’s Peak greatly depends on who you are? If you are a <br>
<br><b>Buddhists</b> – considered the footprint is the left foot of Buddha<br>
<br><b>Hindus</b> – considered the footprint belongs, Lord Shiva<br>
<br><b>Muslims & Christians</b> – considered as the first step of Adam after being exiled from the Garden of Eden<br>
<br>Whatever your belief, start walking up to the peak at midnight. Because you will be at the summit in the morning. Witnessing the sunrise in the morning is nothing short of spectacular. Sri Lankan's are calling it "Ira Sewaya"<br>
<br>There are six trails to the Sripada summit. That includes the more renowned:<br>
<br>Hatton – Nallathanni trail,
<br>Rathnapura – Palabattala trail and
<br>Kuruwita – Erathna trail<br>
<br>and lesser-known<br>
<br>Deraniyagala - Uda Maliboda trail,
<br>Murraywatte - Rajamale - Sandagalathenna trail, and
<br>Hapugastenne - Mookuwatte trail
All of which is more of just footpaths in the jungle. </ul>
